Media Kit Club began when I went on parental leave from my job at a software company and wanted something gently ambitious to do once I was on leave as well. Alongside being a stay-at-home mum, I decided to post more actively on my Instagram and learn more about how people, and the algorithm, behave on social media.
As my follower count started growing quickly, companies began to show interest, in the form of PR invitations and collaborations. That was the first time I heard the word media kit. Even with a strong marketing background, I still didn’t have a clear idea of what a media kit is, or how I should make one.
When I looked into it more closely, I came across several templates and models that offered a way to build a media kit by hand, piece by piece. What they all shared was this: you had to calculate the numbers yourself and update them on the kit. With active posting, all of my social numbers changed every day, and I found myself wondering — is there really no service that would calculate the numbers automatically, and make it easy and quick for even a smaller creator to have a media kit that stays current in real time?
So I asked my partner to code one for me, and I soon realised it could be useful for other people too. My partner and I had found each other on an app, and now we would build an app of our own, one we could use to help others.
This is how Media Kit Club began.
